How I became a real estate agent! My Story: About changing careers.

There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to changing careers. From the career path, you choose to follow, to the decisions that define your current profession and future careers. In other words, a lot of thought and planning/strategy are involved in all these significant changes in jobs. I had been thinking about changing my profession for a really long time. Looking back now, this one change was probably life-changing for me, not only from the financial point of view but also from growing up; both personally and professionally.

Real Estate –  How is this????

My previous career was as General Manager for Red Lobster for 20 years and previous to those 15 years in Hotels and Restaurants.  I enjoyed working with people and understand the importance of being friendly, honest, and trustworthy.

There came a point when I needed to leave the Hospitality Industry and move to another Career.  I knew, that I really enjoyed working with people and making them happy.  So, in 2006, I made the decision to become a Real Estate Agent.  I started taking the courses – and set a goal, that I would become a Real Estate Agent in 4 months.  Back to school, doing homework, studying for tests – that was quite the adjustment.  But I did it, and on September 29, 2006 – I received my license to sell Real Estate.  I went around to different Brokerages,  to interview where I wanted to work.

I chose Coldwell Banker Pinnacle in Simcoe (at the time there were 2 offices, Simcoe and Port Dover).  In 2009 Coldwell Banker Pinnacle split and Peggy Waldick purchased the Simcoe office and named the office Coldwell Banker Action Plus Realty, Brokerage.  The Port Dover office was purchased by Gail Simmons and named the office Coldwell Banker Coastline Realty, Brokerage.

Currently, Coldwell Banker Action Plus Realty Brokerage owns the offices in Simcoe, Port Dover, and Port Rowan – where I work out of all 3 offices.

I have had a very successful career as a Real Estate Agent, I have made a lot of people happy finding their new dream home, selling their homes, or finding investment properties.  I have made many longtime friends, with my clients referring me to their friends and family.   I have won awards every year with the company, and I thank my clients for trusting me to represent them.

Real Estate is a career to me – I love what I do, and I work hard every day for my clients.

When I finally decided to go into real estate, it wasn’t hard—all I had to do was make myself stop thinking about it! Once you make a decision like this, everything else falls into place—you start taking action and making steps toward your goal.

Making the right decision at this stage of life is important because it will last for a long time. Make sure you really want to be on that path before diving in. It may take a few years for you to get established, so don’t ruin your current job when you’ve just started.
